Back It Up!

My good friend Gwen Stefani always used to tell me "back it up! back it up! uh huh, you got it!" and that crazy bitch was right. Yesterday I started my trip to "oh hell no", let me tell you what happened. I made the bold decision to put Windows 7 on my macbook (for producing reasons). I'm all about Apple all the way, but I need some other programs on there that were only window based. So I back up my whole drive, I used the time machine (not the best, but it's free and simple). I partition my drive and split it into two, blah blah, divide memorry, blah blah, rename, blah blah, so on and so on. Finally I'm done and I go to load Windows 7 and it won't load. What do I do? CALL APPLE! I probably call the Apple store 2 times a week, sometimes I just call to see how their day is going. They tell me to come in and talk with them. I get to the store and start chatting with an Apple genius, he pretty much says I fucked my drive up, but he can fix it. I said "you're a genius". He reformats my drive and partitions it for Windows which takes 30-45 minutes, so of course I'm just walking around crop dusting all the kids fidgeting with the new iphones. Finally, genius George calls me over and says I'm good to go, all I have to do is go home and restore it off my backup drive. I get home restore everything and start going through stuff making sure it's all good in the hood. I get into Serato and load a song and BOOM! ! ! !. . . . . . "file not found". Every song! Apparently Serato can't find any of my songs! So what do I do? CALL APPLE! I call the store and genius Jerry answers and tells me I have to make an appointment, but it can't be today or tomorrow because the new Iphone is coming out and all the genius people are too busy. The problem with this is that I have a gig in Zurich Switzerland that I'm leaving for in 72 hrs. Not forgetting that I have to spin the night before! So I call tech support early this morning and they walked me through every step of the restoration process. Thankfully I backed up my stuff prior to this cluster-fuck, if I hadn't I would have been shit out of luck. So my advice to DJ's, Producers, College Kids, Lawyers, Stoners and Artists--BACK IT UP! How much does a 300GB drive cost these days, maybe $100? Do it, it saved my ass and it can sure as hell save yours.
